There was some amazing artwork hung throughout the entire place done by a young guy living there.We headed down towards the waterfront in search of food and were rewarded when we found a few stalls still open in the market area. A lovely old lady cooked us some dinner and we grabbed a fresh juice at another stall. Back at the hostel and after showering and resting some of the crew were preparing for a night out. There was a samba thing on not too far away as another carnival rehearsal and a few people had found liquor stores where they could get some cheap bottles of cachaca. This is a Brazilian liquor made from sugar cane and tastes amazing in a drink they call a capirinha. Lime, sugar, cachaca and ice. Strong and very refreshing. But little sleep for the previous week was catching up with most of us and only 4 or 5 people made it to the samba. The next day was spent walking the huge market at the port. The Ver o Peso market. Apparently the largest open air market in south America. Food, drink, crafts, fruit, veges, meat, live animals, tonics and potions, clothes and more. You name it it was there.
